Don McLean turns 60 on October 2nd

It's hard to believe but Don McLean turns 60 years of age on Sunday October 2nd 2005. And just 9 days later, on October 11th, Hyena Records release his album Rearview Mirror, featuring the original recording of American Pie and Don's new single, 'Run Diana Run'.

Rearview Mirror is an 18-track collection featuring loads of rare and unreleased recordings from over the years. In addition, the set comes with a FREE bonus DVD, featuring among other things, home video footage of Don rehearsing with The Jordanaires.

The album is produced by Don McLean and Joel Dorn. Back in ’74, Joel Dorn produced Don’s Homeless Brother record. The two of them connected because Joel had previously produced “Killing Me Softly (With His Song)” for Roberta Flack, which was inspired by and written for Don. Ever since then they’ve been good buds.

    New version of 'Empty Chairs'
Empty Chairs appeared on the American Pie album and is one of Don McLean's very best songs and greatest recordings. He re-recorded the song during the Chain Lightning sessions in 1978. This version has never before been released but will feature on Don's new album, Rearview Mirror, set for release in October 2005 on the Hyena Records label.

    New CD & DVD
Don McLean's new CD and DVD will be released by Hyena Records in August/September 2005. This will be a 35-year career retrospective featuring previously unreleased concert and studio recordings, "in a league with the Solo album and my greatest recordings of the 1970s," says Don. The DVD will include Don McLean rehearsing at home with the Jordanaires and his band in 1984. Also featured will be the rare Headroom video, produced in 1990. The material for this package has been assembled by Joel Dorn, who produced Don's 1974 album Homeless Brother.

Right now Don is recording a studio album of new songs  and his Western Album, released in 2003, is being played widely on radio in a number of countries.

In August/September Don will be touring overseas in Denmark (his third time in concert there), Scotland, Isle of Man, Northern Ireland and Ireland. Aside from the Irish tour, these are one-night bookings and there are no plans to embark on a full UK or Europe concert tour at that time. Even so his visit to Europe will last for nearly two weeks.
